What a whirlwind! We all gathered in Washington DC for the launch of the book. First Liz and Diana went to a live interview at the local Fox affiliate while Dan, Jesse, Harvey and I stayed back at the hotel and totally forgot to watch them! Then we all met at the Diane Rehm Show studio for our BIG debut. Diane was as elegant and gracious as I imagined she would be, she made us so comfortable. We were all nervous! I hope it didn’t show! She told me she felt really badly about it. She called me one afternoon, years ago. I had just written an article for Harpers Bazaar on the history of soap operas. It was my first national magazine article, published in November 1997, and the first lines were “My mother died three times. We have two of them on tape. Morgan Fairchild shot her in the back on Search for Tomorrow…” I did not know then that those same lines would be the beginning of The Kids Are All Right all these years later. Read more →
Diana heard the news first, and speed dialed Liz–”I just got an email that says we are in People Magazine!” she said. Liz went to the nearest newsstand, opened to page 67 and Liz promptly burst into tears. She called Diana: “It’s the lead review!” she said. ”There are two photos and a book jacket image that takes up 1/4 of the page!” She next called Dan and Amanda and read the review to each verbatim.

We’d been on pins and needles waiting for this to come out, and we’re thrilled with it – though, we have to admit that it feels crazy to open up a glossy mag and see our childhood snapshots, pictures of our parents, etc — all photos never before seen by the public — right there on the page … after page … after page! We’re hoping that folks who read it will be eager to hear the other three perspectives of what happened back then – that’s the beauty of a one-voice excerpt: It doesn’t give too much away!
It’s true – The Kids are All Right made it into Elissa Schappell’s “Hot Type” column! We are so excited!
So, pick up a copy of the September issue – the one with either Michael Jackson or Farrah Fawcett on the cover – and check it out!
Hello! Thank you for checking out our site! We are all really excited and nervous about our life story taking its first steps out into the world, and everything that it entails. For instance, it freaks us out (in a good way) that you can already pre-order our book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, and IndieBound. And, um, all of our embarrassing family photos are now online – a slight by our own hand! What were we thinking? Well, it was long ago, after all. Things have changed. Especially our hair. (In the sisters’ case, we have grown out of those hairspray-hardened looks, embarrassing root perms and helmet-inspired do’s and, in Dan’s case, he has long since shed the bowl cut-mullet look (and Cats sweatshirt!) he rocked in middle school.)
