Heather Hauser has never met any of the Welches – well, at least not in person. She did, however, watch our mother on Search for Tomorrow, a bond that she shared with her own mother. This is Heather’s story.
“Please forgive this weirdness but felt compelled to share: I am sitting here reading Glamour magazine and seeing an excerpt from your new book. I look at the pictures and see your mom and say, “Oh my gosh, that’s Eunice!” Well, I can’t immediately remember how or why I know that, or if I’m even right, until I go to your website.
Basically, I watched your mom on several soaps (mostly Search for Tomorrow) with my own mother when I was a girl. My mom was a stay at home mom and all the women/characters on these shows were very real for her. She really liked your mom’s characters. She was classy and intelligent, what my mom valued.
My mom died from cancer 13 years ago, when I was 30, and reading the excerpt of your story makes me miss her so and also makes me so sad that you all were going through so much while we, “the fans” at home, of course had no idea of your or her huge private struggles.
What an unbelievable story and I have not even read the book in it’s entirety. As a mom of teenagers, I’m not sure I will be able to get through the whole thing out of sadness but I am so glad that you have been reunited as a family. Having now lost both parents (and I’m an adult) it truly is a unique experience. The bonds are so strong and primal.
It makes me happy to think that if our mother’s have met in the afterlife, then my mother has absolutely bored your mother with lots of soap opera trivia.”
